Fabric or Leather Furniture: What will you choose for your Home?

Each person has a different definition of style and comfort.  What’s beautiful and comfortable for one may not be so pretty or relaxing for another.  This is why choosing the right kind of furniture for your home may be quite difficult, especially if every one in your household has different personalities.

Among other things, buying furniture is considered as a major purchase decision for most families.  So it is very critical to come up with the best one.  One of the considerations you must face is the type of family that you have.

For example, if every member of your family is an adult, then you might not think of any kind of limitation.  But if you still have young children, you should consider their mood swings or tendencies as well.

You know very well that younger children enjoy wrestling, pillow fighting, or jumping, which may not be good for your furniture.  Light colors (like pastel or white) will also pick up dirt and stains more easily compared to dark colored ones.

Another consideration in choosing furniture is the type of material that you must decide on – whether it’s a fabric or leather upholstery – these are the two popular choices that dominate the market.

Fabric Furniture

Generally, fabric upholsteries have a warmer feel if you put it side by side to the leather ones.  They can also be good for people with pets, such as cats or dogs.

This is because pets usually jump on the furniture and their claws damage it.  One good thing about fabric furniture is that the scratch on their paws combined with the normal wear and tear does not visibly show too much on it.

Leather Furniture

On the other hand, leather furniture tends to be cooler than fabric.  You would find it very comfortable especially during warm climates.

And in choosing this kind of furniture, you must not be too concerned with its vulnerability.  Manufacturing techniques today has already focused on treating leather furniture with additives to strengthen it against tears or scratches.

In fact, there are upholstery treatments that can repel liquid on its surface (similar to what carpets do).  However, it’s important that you wipe out the liquid quickly – any product will definitely stain if you expose it to liquids for a long time.

In choosing the right furniture, the preference of the family rules above all (according to several furniture manufacturers).  Just don’t think that leather furniture is only for mature people, because they can also be preferred even for those with small children.
